My 2nd Great Grandfather, Joseph McK Moylan, married Lydia Louise Wilson in Philadelphia. Although I have been researching this Wilson family for many years I have been unable to break through my brick wall to Lydia's grandparents in New Jersey. Contact me if you share a family link!
My Wilson lineage, beginning with my Father is William Moylan Lewis (1920-1987) -> Myrtle Olive Moylan Lewis (1900-1941) -> Joseph Hickman Moylan (1864-1941) -> Lydia Louise Wilson Moylan (1844-1912) -> John S Wilson (1804-1861)

According to census records, both John S Wilson and Sarah Jones were born in New Jersey. They married ca. 1833 and had 6 children. Many of their family events occurred in Gloria Dei (Old Swede's) Church in Philadelphia. On on Jan 31, 1838 Hannah and Sarah Ann, the oldest two children, were baptised at Gloria Dei. Hannah's middle name, Thackara, is a common surname in the Gloria Dei records at the time of their baptisms. Sarah Ann was married in Gloria Dei on Nov 17, 1852 and her next younger sister, Lydia, my 2nd G Grandmother, was married there on Oct 7, 1860. Both were married by Rev. J C Clay.
Sarah passed on June 22, 1851, age 36, of scarletina and was interred in Ebenezer Methodist Episcopal Church cemetery. The youngest of their children was barely 4 yrs old when she passed away. She lived long enough to see her oldest daughter married and her first grandchild born, and her second grandchild on the way. John remarried, lived another decade, and passed on Mar 17, 1861 and was interred in Philadelphia City Cemetery. By that time his oldest daughter Hannah had 5 children, Sarah was married and had 1 child, Lydia was married, and the Civil War was under way.
Barely a month after John's passing on Apr 26, 1861, Lydia's husband, Joseph Mck Moylan, enlisted in Company A, 20th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. Three months later, Lydia's older brother, Enoch, joined the Pennsylvania Infantry on Jul 17, 1861. Enoch was promoted to Corporal and was a Seargeant when he left the service on Dec 7, 1862.
On Jun 3, 1881, Lydia and husband Joseph lost their third child, Alfred. They purchased a family plot at Fernwood Cemetery. Later that year on Dec. 6, Lydia had her parents disinterred from their seperate cemeteries, and reinterred together in the Moylan family plot, where they remain together today. This turned out to be a good move as the cemeteries that each were interred in were both later destroyed by age, vandalism, and development.
Hannah was born Sep 30, 1834 in Philadelphia and baptised with her sister Sarah in Gloria Dei Church on Jan 31, 1838. She married silversmith Andrew J. Lenoir and they lived in South Phildadelphia and had ten children between 1850 and 1875. Andrew passed away in 1898. The 1930 Federal Census enumerated Hannah in New Jersey. Hannah passed away on Nov. 5, 1913 in Atlantic City, NJ.
Sarah Ann was born Jan 4 1838 and baptised on Jan 31 at Gloria Dei Church. Sarah married Benjamin F Day of New Jersey on Nov 17, 1852 at Gloria Dei and they lived in Camden, NJ. Sarah lost at least two children. One child, Clara, appears only on the 1860 Federal Census in Camden NJ census. By 1870, Benjamin and Sarah Day lived in Philadelphia. Benjamin passed away in 1893 and Sarah passed on Dec 1, 1911 at her sister, Lydia's home.
Enoch was born in Philadelphia in Feb 1840 and worked as a Corker. He mustered in to the Pennsylvania Infantry as a private on July 17, 1861 and fought in the Civil War for about a year and a half and was promoted to Corporal and then Sergeant. He mustered out Dec. 7, 1862 and soon after he married Bella Jane and moved to Gloucester City, NJ. Enoch and Bella had the following children, all born in NJ: John F (1864-?), Elizabeth Wilson Wiltsey (1868-1940), Bell (1869-1869), Anna Wilson Turner (1871-1945), Sadie Wilson Barnes (1872-1900), Samuel (1875-?), Charles (1876-?), Lillie S Wilson Hazzard (1882-1964). Enoch passed away on Dec. 15, 1902, age 63, in Philadelphia, and was interred in Union Cemetery in Gloucester City, NJ. His wife, Bella, was interred with him on Feb 1918. Enoch's daughters, and sister Hester, are also interred with him in Union Cemetery.
Little is known about Hetty. She was born in Philadelphia in 1845 and passed away on Jan 30, 1915, age 69, and is interred in her brother Enoch's family plot in Union Cemetery, Gloucester City, NJ. It appears she never married or had children.
